Eligibility:  Residents in the vicinity of Hyattstown, 16 years of age or older, shall be eligible for membership in this Department if they are willing to perform the responsibilities of membership as described in the Bylaws of Hyattstown Volunteer Fire Department and take an active part in Department work details, training, and fund raising activities.
Any resident in the vicinity of Hyattstown between the ages of 15 and 18 shall only be eligible for Junior or Cadet membership in the Department, provided that it shall be a condition of eligibility for Junior or Cadet membership that all candidates have the written consent of their parents or guardians under terms and conditions established by the Department. (download duties and job descriptions, pdf file)

Application for Membership:  (download application file pdf format) The application shall state what class of membership the applicant is applying for and shall be filed with the Personnel Committee chairperson.  The applicant shall be interviewed by the committee and then the committee shall present its recommendations to the membership at the next regular meeting.  The  membership, by a majority vote of the active members present shall act upon such application.  The applicant must be present at the meeting before being presented to the membership for action. 

If accepted into probationary membership status, the applicant must pay the calendar year dues in which such applicant was accepted to membership.  Such dues are to be paid to the Assistant Treasurer.  A letter shall be sent to the applicant with a copy placed in the applicant's personnel folder, notifying the applicant of the outcome of their membership request.  Such applicant shall not participate in fire or rescue incidents until a medical examination, fingerprints, criminal record check, and photograph have been presented to the committee and the applicant has completed the orientation requirements.
